Gendius’ diabetes remote management platform named best mHealth application 2020

mHealth innovator, Gendius, has won the ‘Best mHealth Application’ at the Health Tech Digital awards 2020 with its pioneering diabetes remote management platform, Intellin®. The Intellin® remote management platform is designed to help people with diabetes to actively track and monitor their condition. The platform uses patients’ clinical history and metabolic markers to forecast their risk for developing serious diabetes-related complications.

Intellin’s ® smart algorithms analyse users’ health and wellbeing data to provide individually tailored, clinically-validated educational content and guidance to help people with diabetes to manage their condition more effectively. Unlike many other diabetes tracking apps, Intellin® highlights users’ risk profile, and acts as a ‘sat-nav’ to help them to plan for the future, and reduce their risk of developing complications.

Gendius CEO, Rory Cameron, comments, “We are thrilled that our Intellin® platform has been recognised as the leading mHealth application for 2020 by the Health Tech Digital expert judges. With the unique healthcare challenges that have been thrown up by COVID-19, remote management technology is now more important than ever, especially for long-term conditions like diabetes. We have some exciting new developments on the horizon for Intellin®, which are going to give people with diabetes even more tools to monitor and control their condition.”

Launched in January 2020, Intellin® has already seen outstanding growth, with over 375,000 downloads worldwide, and more than 70,000 monthly active users. It is one of the top scoring diabetes apps in the ORCHA app library, and has been welcomed as an exciting development in diabetes care by clinicians.

In a review of Intellin®, in collaboration with leading health app evaluation and distribution organisation, ORCHA, Dr Tom Micklewright said, “Intellin® is the FitBit of diabetes apps. It is an incredibly comprehensive tracking tool for monitoring a huge range of different variables that matter to diabetics. The most valuable bit is you can go to the priorities section off the app. What the priorities section does, is draw all of the information from the tracking you have done together to highlight your highest risk areas as a diabetic. It flags the high-risk areas, explains that risk, and then offers tailored advice to the patient. […] This is a great tracking tool for diabetics.”

In response to the growing need for reliable remote diabetes management technology, Gendius recently entered into a strategic partnership with AstraZeneca in the Gulf region. The partnership will see healthcare professionals across the Gulf using the Intellin® platform to optimise their patients’ diabetes management. Gendius is also in discussions with a number of NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) about integrating Intellin® into their existing diabetes management schemes.
